Executive summary
This document describes how developers can use the components of the Personal Semantic Desktop (PSD) workpackage 2 (WP2). There are multiple sources of documentation delivered, all available and maintained on a public website. Managing documentation on a website has the advantage that it can be improved and corrected anytime. This deliverable gives readers a step-by-step tutorial, with the goal that they will be able to use and understand the components. It gives an overview of the available online documentation and eases the access to it. The documentation is accompanied with software prototypes. They contain example code snippets that show how to use the core components, including various unit tests which document the expected input and output values and correct behaviour of the components. The documentation and example snippets were read and used by participants of the NEPOMUK summer school as learning material and helped achieve the mini-project goals successfully. One section is reserved for lessons learned from designing the architecture and realising the implementation. One lesson was that our development process did benefit from unit testing and a collection of test data. Further, the architecture showed structural flaws when it comes to passing the parameters between services. The lessons learned section is intended to pass on knowledge gained in the development process.
